I'd say it is worth it if you play pretty often, but as you said you aren't a hardcore gamer, I'd say no, it isn't worth it. I changed from FF EX to G25 myself and certainly it is a great thing to have, It does it job well, but I was playing quite a lot more back then. Considering it's price, I wouldn't buy it right now certainly, as I will just waste a lot of money on a great piece of hardware, which I will seldomly use on weekends.

In your situation I'd rather buy something like DF GT wheel, which is cheaper, and does most of the features of G25 pretty well. It doesn't have a shifter (which is quite crap feel-wise on a G25) or a clutch pedal (which you can easily have from your FF EX pedals, not the most estetic soloution, but worked for me well).

So, in conclusion: If you have a lot of spare money, why not? If your budget isn't big, buy a lower class wheel.

Just my 2c,

Art.

Quote from logitekg25 :i meant left foot braking with the switch to heel toe.

Unless you are a yetti, I don't think its that difficult. Without shoes it isn't hard, for me at least (44,5 european size) (I have a spacer mod though)

Thanks, didn't had time to do it back then in the morning

Quote from pik_d :
So far the manual clutch has been slightly faster both times. In the XRT testing though you weren't all that consistent with the manual clutch. Was this the clutches fault or were you getting used to the track? Do you feel like the slight difference in best lap was due to your skill or the different types of clutches?

Partly both. I knew this track quite well, but I didn't had much time so I had less practice with the manual clutch on this track, I'm not the best driver in the world also

Quote from pik_d :
I will note that for the XFG test ART got a better start with the auto clutch... by about .10-.15 of a second. Also he flat shifted, but that just shows that he was able to get the clutch in just as quickly as the auto-clutch.

Yeah, I flat-shifted with both clutches in this test

I'm really curious to see what will come out of this, despite some people endlessly insisting that manual is faster than autoclutch,

Manual is faster ovar auto-clutch when you compare only one shift, fact. But when you add to the equation things like need for blipping the throttle, contol of braking, steering, moving the gear lever and pressing clutch pedal at exact times it really changes the picture. thats why AC rules in WR charts.

You need to be a robot to be faster than auto-clutch in all conditions...

@Dennis: FZR is indeed hard with H-shifter, but not impossible. You just need to practice a bit more and you can always skip gears

Quote from Dennis93 :Well, shouldn't really be harder to beat the clutch kick that auto clutch produces, it's very slow imo.

It's not hard to beat with manual Clutch.

Indeed, the shift time with manual clutch is faster, however what really brings the diffirence is the consistency of the driver, because you have to do several actions simultaniously which takes quite some time to learn doing right.

I've done some of the tests for you.

First of all, I used G25 wheel, 900 degrees rotation, when using manual clutch I heel'n'toed, with auto-clutch I braked with the left foot and blipped with the right one.

I've done two of the tests so far. I'm using H-gate shifter for more than a year now and got quite used to it, still mis-shifts happend from time to time.

In my tests I've had several attempts, the best ones are uploaded. With XRT I used ABS, to minimize the spreading of lap times.

ALL TEST DONE WITH Z15 Patch

Quote from BigPeBe :Installed the new patch, it actually is good! The benchmark result raised from ~30fps to solid 40fps.

I haven't run the benchmark to compare, but I can definetly see a solid increase in FPS

1.0.0.4 (or 1.0.3.1) version patch seems to be released. Has anyone tried it yet? Says it has optimisation features...

Your savegame files are stored at your PC separetly from the game, and reinstalling it won't affect them, tested myself. Unless you are going to format your C: harddrive...

Today I had a several hour trip around the town in rush hour with quite a lot of traffic jams. I was driving a Toyota Celica'97 with a manual, which has quite a heavy clutch. Honestly, I don't get that fuss with manuals being hard in a traffic jam. You need to be either incredibly lazy or uncoordinated if it is so hard for you. I've also driven autos and I do agree it is easier, but definetly manual isn't hard at all

You need to use Custom view to get that angle. Its in the view options.

Actually, I think I have the same problem too. I don't have visual wheel on the screen, so it was hard to detect, but it was clearly noticable when trying to drift (countersteer). No problems with Z though

As a last option, try reinstalling Profiler to last version, maybe even LFS too and what it will make. I have G25 and Z13 also but no problems here

Quote from oli17 :hi, after june 17th (ish), i'll be able to use my logitech DFP wheel with lfs, the only problem of which is that it doesn't have a H-pattern gearbox (stick shift) or a clutch. basically, i was wondering:

a) if it's possible to make them to use with DFP
b) if it was possible for ME to make them (15 year old with very limited funds/resources/expertise
c) and therefore how much it would cost to make?

i've seen pics of other people's what look to be homemade shifts/clutches (possibly available to buy separately for not too much?), and looks like quite a cheap alternative to buying a G25 (which is out of the question).

any help very much appreciated,

Oli

The cheapest and the least technically hard way would be buying a ForceFeedback Joystick to be used as H-shifter with the FFShifter software, and buying a cheap old wheel (may be even broken, only the pedals must be working) and use its pedal for the clutch.

Quote from anttt69 :My G25 doesn't clamp to my desk very well. Are there any ways of improving the clamps.

If by the term of "not very well" you mean that the force they are holding the wheel at the desk is not enough, easy solution would be using rubber ductape on the surface of clamps, girps quite nicely

Quote from sil3ntwar :I fail to understand why you would change the rims with the season.

It's simple:
You get up to +50*C in Summer, and down to -25*C in winter. There is no reasonably priced tyre that can work in this temprature range well. Summer tire is made from a harder compound, it only has good grip till +5*C in average, then its loses significant amount of grip. Winter tires are made of much softer compound and have a much deaper tread for obvious reasons of driving in the snow. Using them in the warm weather is possible, but they aren't giving their best grip and wear fast.

Quote from dhinchin :Would agree on PSU, however it might be worth opening your case and checking for dust around the CPU/fan. Mine had a similar problem, and on occasion would state that a start-up was aborted due to CPU overheat. I cleaned it out and whilst it has not fixed 100% there was a least a dramatic improvement to the point that I can use it now.

Cleaned the dust off from everywhere inside, still the problem remains...
Annoying problem with PC...

Hi there.
I'm not a technical guru, so forgive me for noobiness beforhand

I'll try to explain as detailed as possible. I used to have this problem some times in the past with this PC but it was very rare. The problem itself is: When I press power button on the PC, the blue light lights up, but the flashing violet light (that means that HDD is loading something afaik) doesn't, I can hear fans working and all, but nothing happens and monitor stays switched off. It used to be very rare, and after switching off PC(by holding the power button, reset doesn't work) and starting it again it was starting up fine again. But now its got worse, it starts that way almost every time and sometimes it takes 3-5 restarts to start up the loading of OS.

I have no idea what can cause this so I'd be glad if somebody would explain or advise something.
Thanks beforehand.

PS: I did a search, couldn't find anything regarding my problem...

Quote from JasonJ :

My shifter board is about 2 mm too thin so the third screw doesn't even meet the surface. Some tape on the other two feet and the shifter doesn't slip about at all anymore.

The third screw isn't really meant for holding the shifter from slipping as much, but for not allowing it to bend forward-backwards. WIthout it the shifter can move in that direction, but its only a few mm anyway...
